What is a New York Pass, and should I get one?

A New York Pass can be your best friend, that is, assuming you plan to see as much of New York City as possible. Believe it or not, many tourists just wing it when they get here, and that knuckleheaded approach ultimately leads to wasted time, money or both. A poorly planned trip to NYC is, in a word.. bananas!

So, how do I know if a New York Pass works for me? Well, Nitz...what's on your "to do" list? If you were just planning to walk around Times Square or maybe take a tour of the Empire State Building, then it's probably not for you, but if your list is long with attractions like The Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, the Museum of Natural History, The Museum of Modern Art, The Intrepid, NBC Studios, Yankee Stadium and the Empire State Building... not to mention about 60 other attractions... then it's definitely something to consider.

So, how does it save me time? To begin, you'll save time by having a plan instead of winging it like a knucklehead. Your New York Pass will also grant you line skipping privileges, so you can strut right past the dimwits waiting in line who didn't plan ahead. And your pass is just that, a pass that you keep, that works like a credit card. Instead of buying tickets or printing email confirmations on your computer printer, you simply swipe your pass at your chosen destination. You can even download a free app for your smart phone. Easy enough? Don't stand in the line - buy the New York Pass online here!

Ok, I see how it saves me time, but what about money? This is easy. Imagine you and the family showed up to Sizzler for their all you can eat buffet. You got your sweatpants on, you didn't eat the night before and you're ready to do some serious damage. You step up to the troff and shovel a mountain of eats onto your plate and quickly scamper back to your table to avoid embarrassment. And what do you do when you've inhaled everything on your plate? You turn around and do it again, and again until you're finally exhausted from chewing.

Well, the New York Pass works the same way, sorta... The more you use it, the cheaper things end up costing you. Just like the $8 bucks you shelled out at the Sizzler buffet for the $20 worth of food you scoffed up like a hurricane with ears. You see? The New York Pass enables you to do as little or as much as you want for the same flat rate and comes in a variety of options from 1-Day up to a week. It has benefits for either long trips (discounted rate) or short trips, when time is a commodity.

So, how do you get one? You can buy your New York Pass online and have it mailed to you before you even arrive, so you won't have to deal with the hassle of hunting one down later. Don't worry, your card doesn't actually activate until you show up to the first attraction of your choosing. That means, if you plan your days accordingly, you can group things together in the same area for that particular day. For example.. if you wanted to see the Statue of Liberty, you'll want to concentrate on attractions in the Downtown area like the World Trade Center rather than waste time heading up to Midtown for Madame Tussauds or all the way Uptown for the Museum of Natural History. See what I mean about planning? If you group your destinations together by location, you can do some serious damage, just like Sizzler. A good way to achieve this is to break the city down into three sections...Uptown, Downtown and Midtown. Commit a full day to one of these areas at a time and you'll reap the benefits.

Final thoughts? I personally think the New York Pass is a no-brainer. It's cheaper to get in, quicker to get out and it even comes with a nifty guidebook. Still on the fence? Look at it this way...you're gonna fork out almost $40 bucks just to get into Madame Tussauds and $25 bucks a pop to get to the top of Kong's favorite skyscraper. Those two things alone cost almost as much as a 1-Day pass and more if you buy an extended pass that covers 3 days or more! The longer the pass, the cheaper the price. Hell, a 7-Day pass costs less than $30 a day! Check out the current online special rates at the link right here: New York Pass
