Are New Yorkers rude?

Why do you ask? Is it the infamous stereotype? The media hype? A tv or movie type? Look, we New Yorkers get a bad rap. I know, I know, I'm not helping the cause with my brand of humor throughout this blog, but it's all in good fun. As I've said before, I like to poke fun at things and yeah, sometimes it's at your expense, but every fuggetaboutit I type is a shot at myself and my native brothren.

So, are we rude? I guess if you're uptight, overly sensitive or a good old boy, you might think so, but the truth is New Yorkers are misunderstood. I know some of us get defensive over this and some throw around terms like "in a rush", but IMO, it's not one single characteristic that stirs this pot. What it boils down to is that we're products of our environment. An environment that is loud, fast, competitive and confrontational. Does this describe your surroundings? Probably not unless you live in a big city like Chicago or Miami or parts of LA, and even then, it's on a lesser scale than New York City. Speaking of which, if you're a tourist you're probably wondering... Do New Yorkers hate tourists?

I can almost guarantee that if given the opportunity, the average New Yorker would be more than willing to lend a hand or give you directions, but I think our reputation sometimes precedes us. Yeah, we're in a rush, but you'd be too in an atmosphere such as this. So, are New Yorkers rude? Nah, just misunderstood. Later, Nitz!
