Is NYC safe?

Safer than you think and obviously safer than you know. It's amazing that even with our faces buried in laptops and smart phones night and day, with every form of media at our disposal, that so many are still slaves to stereotypes or convinced that what they see in movies or on TV is real. Well, guess what daddy-o...

New York City is the safest big city in America!

And this isn't by some fluke. Nope, we've consistently topped the chart, year after year. This isn't the 1970's or 80's folks. Did you know that there is more crime in Orlando, Florida than in New York City? In fact, guess what the following cities have in common.... St Louis, MO; Memphis, TN; Little Rock, AR; Birmingham, AL; Baltimore, MD; Cleveland, OH; Baton Rogue, LA; New Haven and Hartford, CT... Not only do they all have more crime than New York City, they're part of the 25 Most Dangerous Cities in America according to the FBI's annual crime report. Take a gander for yourself! Even New York State's own, Buffalo made the list, but not NYC! Does that mean that New York City is devoid of crime? Hell no. We've still got our share of it, but we've also got well over 8 million people living here and 1.5 million plus, just in Manhattan.

Ok, so are there any neighborhoods I should avoid? As a tourist, you'll probably have little reason to stumble on any questionable areas, but if you find yourself straying too far Uptown, you may get a dose of culture shock if you live in middle America or down south. That being said, a tourist probably shouldn't venture into parts of Harlem or da Bronx and if you're Downtown, you'll probably have a more gratifying trip if you avoid Brooklyn neighborhoods like  Bed-Stuy, Brownsville or East New York. The bottom line... a little common sense goes a long way!
