How much money should I bring with me to NYC?

Ok, lets stop right here, Nitz.... How can anyone answer this without buttloads of details? This is one of those questions I'd see on Y!A that would really boil my brain. Like the dimwits who'd ask How much would it cost to fly to New York? without mentioning where they're coming from! Duh, I dunno, $50 bucks, a thousand?

To answer this question, ask yourself... what do I plan to do when I get to New York City? Do I plan to take a tour? Catch a Broadway show? Am I a foodie? A drinker? A shopaholic? Are you lean and mean or a chubbin? Maybe walking around and taking in the sites in Times Square is enough for you. Maybe you live on a steady diet of coffee and croissants. How old are you? How long do you plan to stay?

The bottom line is, there is no universal answer. New York City is expensive! The cost of living here can be friggin' mind blowing to you tightwads out there. Simple habits like a pack of smokes can set you back 14-15 clams! No shit. Be prepared to fork out anywhere from $50-$100 a day to actually enjoy yourself and at least $150 a night for a hotel (much more during holidays).

Look, if you're still not sure what you plan to do and plan to wing it, then you're probably gonna spend more than you think. A properly planned trip will save you time and money. For example, you can book everything from tours to entry fees to attractions well in advance, and usually at a discount. I'd advise you do as much planning as possible. Research the going rate of things online, because lets face it... only you know you. Nobody else can tell you how much it takes to tickle your brain. The answers are out there, so don't be a lazyass!
